Boys and Girls Club of Kootenai County: work day

This Saturday the three area Kiwanis Clubs (Coeur d'Alene, Panhandle and Post Falls) will be working together to help the Boys and Girls Club of Kootenai County.

The Boys and Girls Club of Kootenai County is currently collecting donations in order to build their own facility. But, in the meantime, their current facility is in desperate need of a facelift.

All three area clubs will be meeting at the Church of the Nazarene in Post Falls (see google map below for directions) at 9 a.m. and working until 3 p.m. to paint, tear up carpet, clean and otherwise bring the space up to snuff.

If you are interested in helping out, please feel free to stop by anytime on Saturday, March 6th. Wear your working clothes as manual labor is bound to be involved!

We look forward to seeing you there!

CDA4Kids - Before & After School Program doing GREAT things in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

The framework for CDA4Kids began years ago when teachers from Borah Elementary recognized that their students needed more educational support in order to succeed.

For various reasons, students were coming to school hours before the bell rang, and many did not have the support at home regarding homework assistance.

For that reason, six years ago “Homework House” and “Wake Up and Read” were supported with a $500 grant from The Kiwanis Club of Coeur d'Alene.

Building on the success of the programs, a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant was awarded to expand the programs to Hayden Elementary (which became Atlas).  With that grant, support from the community, and thanks to the dedication of the staff, the programs are now in 6 schools throughout the district.

What is CDA4Kids?

CDA4Kids exists to provide enrichment activities and academic support in a safe and inspiring environment.

Enrichment Activities:

CDA4Kids want kids to experience the beauty of life!  Enrichment activities have included: arts, music, crafts, sports, ecology, citizenship, cooking, drama, gardening, culture ,and much more!  They are only limited by their own creativity and volunteer base.

Academic Enrichment:

CDA4Kids want to help kids be succesful in reading, language arts, math, and science.  Their goal is to provide academic enrichment activities that will excite students and inspire them to reach their academic potential.  Presently, the data shows that students that participate in experiential based, enrichment programs achieve greater gains in standardized testing.
