Student of the Month, January 2010: Mason Shaw

Mason Shaw is a senior at Lake City High School and one of four National Merit Semi-finalists.  A top scholar with a 4.2 cumulative grade point, Mason has taken most of his school's advanced level courses, including placement and IB.  National Honor Society, Academic All American, and academic lettering all attest to his academic success at LCHS.

Mason will be attending Stanford University as he has recently signed a letter of intent to swim.  An outstanding swimmer, Mason was selected as Swimmer of the Year in North Idaho 2007 and 2008 and was a 2008 Olympic trail qualifier, along with Inland Empire Swimmer of the Year in 2008.  A two-time state record holder and three-time state champion; Mason is also the 400 yard individual medley junior national champion and meet record holder.  He has been a member of the LCHS swim team and captain of the Spokane area swim team.

Mason has also been a member of Boy Scouts through his junior year in high school.

While attending Stanford, Mason plans to major in Materials Science.

Student of the Month, December 2009: Ashley Eachon

Ashley Eachon is a senior at Lake City High School, one of eighteen students working toward Lake City High School’s International Baccalaureate Diploma.  She has maintained a cumulative grade point of 4.2 while taking her school’s most advanced classes.  Ashley’s academic efforts have been acknowledged through her being selected as an Idaho Top Scholar, a member of National Honor Society, and she has received a LCHS academic letter.

Active throughout high school, Ashley has been on the varsity cross-country team since her freshman year.  She has also been a member of the varsity golf team all four years. Ashley has been an active volunteer at Lake City and in the community as a Pathfinder mentor (helping new freshman transition to the high school setting), a Trail Creek counselor,(to our district’s sixth graders), and participating in the “Pay-it-Forward” project (helping out in other communities within the northwest volunteering in various capacities). Receiving the Pathfinder Outstanding Performance Award and The Idaho High School Activities Association Participant’s Award, attest to Ashley’s dedication and her desire to be of service to others.  Working part-time and being active in her church round out her list of many activities.

 Ashley’s plans include attending college to pursue a degree in nutritional science and/or clinical nutrition and finishing a degree at the graduate level.  She also has an interest in marine biology.

The Kiwanis Club of Coeur d'Alene is proud of Ashley and her many, many accomplishments.  We wish you the best in your future endeavors, we know you'll go far!

Student of the Month, November 2009: Cameron Hosack

Cameron Hosack is a senior at Lake City High School with a cumulative grade point average of 4.2. He has taken most of his school’s advanced level classes including honors, Advanced Placement, and IB courses. For his academic efforts he was selected as Idaho Top Scholar, and is a member of his school’s National Honor Society.

Cameron has been involved with the CDA Soccer Club for several years and has been a member of the LCHS varsity soccer program for the past two years, most recently being named the Varsity Defensive Most Valuable Player.

Aside from academics and sports, Cameron has spent time volunteering in the community; tutoring students at Sorenson Elementary School and teaching children to juggle at Art on the Green and in Riverfront Park. He has performed juggling at Gonzaga, Whitworth, and North Idaho College. Cameron has also been a referee at youth area soccer games.

It is Cameron’s plan to attend a four year college and pursue a degree in biological sciences with future plans to attend medical school.
